Joseph HENDERSON. RSW
Summertime
Joseph Henderson was born in Stanley, Perthshire in 1832 and died in Ballintrae in 1908. He painted in oil and watercolour of landscapes, genre, portraits and seascapes. He studied at Trustees Academy and became an enthusiastic member of Glasgow Art Club. He was very influenced by Sir William McTaggart took Henderson’s daughter as his second wife. He exhibited widely including RA. RSA etc. His work is represented in the collections of Glasgow, Kirkaldy, Greenock and Edinburgh.

Kinnear was an Edinburgh painter who worked between 1870 and 1917. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1880-1891 and 80 times at the Royal Scottish Academy and widely at other venues.

Details of this artist have not been found but a back-plate notes the picture’s provenance as the collection of Malinda Murphy. Mrs Murphy was the daughter in law of Carlo Maria Mennotti (the opera composer and the daughter of Nelson Rockafella, (vice-president, U.S.A.) The painting was hung for many years in Yester House (Menotti’s home) before being presented to a long-serving Housekeeper on her retirement.

This artist was born, Noel Laura Bush, in 1887 and was the daughter of Scottish artist Hume H Nisbet. She married English artist Harry Bush and died in 1956. Trained at South Kensington in 1910, she was made a member of the Royal Institution of Painters in Watercolour in 1925. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Glasgow Institute, The Royal Institution of Painters in Oils etc.
